About this product
The 3BUPFJ58 is a 5-inch back-up pad designed to attach to a random orbital sander or polisher. It serves as the mounting surface for 5″ sanding or polishing discs, providing a stable, cushioned platform that lets the disc conform to the workpiece without “digging in.” Made from a resilient foam core bonded to a durable, hook-and-loop face, this pad absorbs vibration, distributes pressure evenly, and prevents damage to delicate aircraft surfaces during sanding, polishing, or compounding tasks.3BUPFJ58 Datasheet

Hook-and-Loop Disc Attachment - The hook-and-loop surface makes it quick and easy to swap 5″ sanding or polishing discs without adhesive, saving time between operations.
Medium-Density Foam Core - Balances firmness and flexibility to conform to curved or uneven surfaces, reducing swirl marks and allowing consistent material removal.
Rigid Plastic Backing Plate - Molded to keep the foam from distorting, it maintains a flat, even pad face for smooth, controlled sanding or polishing.
High-Temperature and Chemical Resistance - The foam and plastic materials resist heat buildup and common polishing compounds or cleaning solvents, extending pad life.
Feathering edge transitions, sanding primer before topcoat, and blending repaired areas on fuselage skin.
Using polishing pads to restore shine to metal or composite surfaces after paint stripping, or to apply wax/compound.
Smoothing fairing compound on fiberglass or carbon-fiber parts without creating flat spots or gouges.
Working around rivet lines, access panels, or tight contours where a flexible pad helps maintain consistent contact.
How do I attach sanding or polishing discs?
Simply press the hook side of the disc onto the loop face of the pad. To remove, peel off the disc and replace it with a fresh one.
Can it handle high-speed operation?
Yes. The molded plastic backing and foam core are rated for speeds up to 12,000 RPM, but do check your tool’s maximum RPM to confirm compatibility.
What maintenance does the pad require?
Periodically clean the hook-and-loop face by brushing with a soft wire brush or compressed air to remove built-up dust and debris so discs adhere properly.
