FB1172 is an aircraft-grade flash tape supplied new with the manufacturer's trace paperwork. It is a self-adhesive protective tape intended for routing, sealing, and surface protection tasks in aircraft maintenance and installations. Designed for easy application and serviceability, FB1172 helps prevent chafing, seal gaps, and protect finishes during assembly, test, and line maintenance while providing the traceability required for certified work.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

FB1172

  • Aerospace-quality adhesive: Designed to adhere reliably to common aircraft surfaces while remaining removable when required.

  • Flexible backing: Conforms to compound curves and irregular surfaces for a neat, continuous seal.

  • Low-profile finish: Thin construction that adds minimal bulk where clearance is limited.

  • Serviceable removal: Can be removed cleanly per OEM guidance to allow access for inspection and repair.


  • Sealing small panel seams and gaps behind cockpit and cabin panels during maintenance to reduce air and dust ingress.

  • Wrapping and protecting wiring bundles at sharp edges and through bulkhead penetrations to prevent chafe.

  • Temporarily covering exposed connector pins or backshells during storage and transport to keep contamination out.

  • Masking and protecting painted surfaces and trim during shop repairs, drilling or rivet work.


  • What is flash tape used for?

It’s a self-adhesive protective tape used for sealing, chafe protection, masking, and temporary protection of wiring, tubes, and panel areas in aircraft maintenance.

  • Will the tape damage paint or finishes?

When removed correctly according to the OEM guidance, it is intended to come off cleanly. Always test in an inconspicuous area and follow the aircraft maintenance manual.

  • Can I use it in wet or oily areas?

FB1172 tolerates incidental exposure to common aviation fluids, but prolonged immersion or contact with aggressive chemicals should be avoided. Check the CofC and AMM for limits.
